A Fairly Productive Weekend

I'm never motivated on Mondays to actually post so, my weekends end up looking like 4 days.  That's cool.  I usually do more on Monday's anyway.

P went to her dad's early on Friday, so I headed out to meet my mom at the grocery store.  Yes, I stalk my mother while she buys groceries.  I hadn't seen her in a few weeks.  It was nice, even if she was sick.

After leaving the store, I detoured to the "grown up drink" store.  And finally to home.  I had a couple items listed to sell and one of them did on Friday night.  After meeting up with the nice (non-homicidal) lady, I came home and made myself a fruity beverage.

I ate and then started to redecorate/reorganize my room.  I really really like my room.  It's eclectic and not super girly.  It's filled with things I love.  And things I've made.

I still have a bunch of things to add and change in my room, but it's in a good place right now.  I finished moving things around on Saturday and added the final touches on Sunday.  I'm slow when I know I have a few days.

I didn't do much of anything on Saturday.  It rained...a lot.  My second item sold and the nice couple (again, non-homicidal thankfully) came to pick it up.  Afterwards, I went and picked up a couple things for some crafting.

It's amazing...I am such a procrastinator.  I wait until the last minute on Sunday to get things moving.

I had seen this silhouette plaque on Pinterest.  It had a painted background and had animal heads.  I thought it would be cute to do P's head.  It turned out ok.  Just ok.  I used a fabric background instead of painted.  Not really a fan.  But it is on display in my bedroom.

P ended up coming home early on Sunday.  She had a big day and was sunburned, filthy and tired.  After eating dinner and taking a bath, she wanted to "sit" with me and watch "some of your shows."  That literally lasted all of 2 minutes and she was out.

I love this girl.  Too precious for words...when she's sleeping.

Thankfully, she woke up Monday with tanned skin.  She got her mama's tanning ability (thank goodness!).  We had a few errands to run on Monday and I had a special planned.

P played outside with some of her friends and afterwards, we went back out for her special.  Snow Cones!!

She had a Rainbow snow cone and said it was delicious.  I had a Pineapple/Mango and it was summery and yum!

That's one thing marked off our Summer Bucket List.  Have you marked anything off yet?

We have a full week planned...it's going to be great...long, but great.

Until next time friends...

Summer Bucket List Linkup

Hey y'all!  I am really late to the party today, but hey, better late than never, right?!

Today, I am linking up with Holly and Trista.  They're hosting a Summer Bucket List linkup.  And this is perfect, because I've been making mine.

This is P's last summer before she starts kindergarten. Up until now, it's been me and her...all day, every day.  I really want this last summer to be fun and exciting and memorable for her.  I started our bucket list a couple months ago...with the idea that we would begin on June 1st.  That is just a few days away.  And here we goooooooooooooooooooo...

I am really excited to get started.  And to share them here on Just Breathe.  I hope everyone else makes a Summer Bucket List.  Let's see how many we can cross off the list!?!

Until next time...

A Little Photo Dump

So, I am doing this little post because, well, I don't have another one planned. Talk about not being prepared. But this is my weekend...in photos.

I'm not sure when this was...I think Friday!?!  But we all decided it was going to be a lazy day.  And when we ALL decide that...it's a miracle.

Honestly, we didn't do anything Saturday or Sunday.

Monday, we went to a very impromptu cookout at my brothers.

I did have time to throw this yummy little beauty together.

We got ready.  P dressed herself.  Of course.

I was able to get a little more sun on those bright white legs.

Lunch/dinner was pretty darn good.  And the company wasn't bad either!

And P got to play outside with her cousin C.

P was worn out and actually went to bed easily.  Yay!  And I got some more sun.  It was a semi-relaxing day.

I wanted to throw this in...because Graye is adorable.  She doesn't normally sleep on her back.

And last night, I saw the back of P's head.  Oh My!!  Her hair is getting really curly!

Ok, well, that's all for today.  Hopefully, I will have something of more substance later in the week.

Happy Reading!

Weight-y Wednesday...but Not Really.

It's Weighty Wednesday, but I think there may be more pressing matters on everyone's minds right now.

I live in Arkansas...which is right next door to Oklahoma (just in case anyone was geography illiterate).  The storms that raced through OK, came through AR too.  We were luckier in my state.

I am a mother of a small child.  I have lost family members throughout the years, including a brother, sisters, and my father.  I know loss.  So, I understand to a certain extent the grief that the communities in OK are feeling tonight.  One that I hope to never know, is the loss of a child.  I could not imagine the pain...the suffering...the fear.  And part of me distances myself from that pain I see on the tv and on the internet.  All the while hugging my daughter just a little bit tighter.

I won't lie.  I haven't watched or read one news organization concerning the aftermath of the tornadoes in Moore, OK.  I've seen some of the photos online and I read enough on my Facebook feed.  It's terrible.  It's tragic.  And I know that it can and HAS happened where I am in Central AR.

I know that we will all join together and help Moore and others rebuild.  That's what we do.  We're from the South.  We work hard.  We care about our neighbors.  We've been known to give the shirt off our backs.  We rally.  It's not just about football, ya know?!

And so, we help.  We help in the ways we can.  We give our money.  We give our items.  We give our time.  We give our thoughts and prayers.  These families have lost everything.  Dollars and clothes and the clearing of debris will not bring back their sons and daughters.  But it is one less thing these souls will have to worry about later.  Do what you can.

And while I am talking about doing what we can, please don't forget about the other family members.  These people also lost their pets.  If you know me, you know that I will oftentimes connect with animals before people.  There is something so basic in the relationship between an animal and a human.  There are no pretenses.  There is no "you scratch my back" mentality.  There is love and there is companionship.  There is duty and loyalty.

It is obvious that the humans are the primary objective in these situations.  Especially for those members of the communities affected.  I also believe that we should be doing what we can for those furry or 4 legged babies.  I mean, these babies do matter.  In some cases, the furbabies are the only family these people have.  I have read some amazing stories of animal rescues and reunions.  I've read about people taking their time and money to save these injured and scared animals.  It is truly commendable.

Since I am an animal person, I've put together some information on how you can help the furbabies in need.  They need us too.  Remember that.  (As a side note, please do not jump on the bandwagon that I am advocating the ignoring of helping human victims.  It's a simple fact that animals do not have a voice.)

The OK Humane Society is in need to supplies and monetary donations.  You can find information on their website www.okhumane.org.  A direct link to their needs can be followed here.

Here in AR...the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission will have a community drop off from Tuesday through Friday at the following address:

1 Natural Resources Drive,
Little Rock, AR.

Below is a list of needed items:

Cages/crates
Paper Towels
Dog/cat food
Disposable feed bowls
Leashes and collars
Spray bottles
Gloves
Little boxes and kitty litter

I urge everyone to do what they can.  Any tiny bit will help.  And remember, it doesn't have to be money.  Materials and time are also needed.

Again...my thoughts go out to those affected by the recent severe weather in Oklahoma.  BB

A Day Late...

And a Dollar Short...right y'all!?!

That's about how I'm feeling right now.

I did not have the energy or patience to do much of anything yesterday...including writing a post.  Sorry...I'm not sorry.  I woke up with a massive headache (which is different from my usual migraines).  I barely got dressed.

Are you looking for a weekend recap?  Yeah, I'm going to make that short and sweet.

Friday...I slept.  No really.  I took P to her dad's and then I came home and ate and then went to sleep.  After I woke up from my 4 hour nap, I decided to start on some things I've been needing to do for a while.  Then I didn't do them.  And I decided to make a "half slip skirt extender."  Yeah, it turned out awesome.  I'll be putting the tutorial up later in the week for Weekly Pinspiration.  You should totally be looking forward to that.

On Saturday, I did more of the same.  I didn't leave my house once.  Not once.  I actually did manage to finish some projects...including a remodel of my "office" window.  I took down some boards and put up a sheet and some new sheers.  Sounds odd?  Yeah, it probably is.  I also made a new version of this tortilla muffin thing.  I'll be posting that recipe later this week too.  There are lots of ideas for that recipe.  That's another one to look forward too.

Sunday...I cleaned house.  It needed it.  And I slept some more.  I love to sleep.  I have this need to catch up every other weekend.  No matter how many plans I have.  No matter how many awesome things are going on.  I will probably be sleeping if I don't have P.  Plain and simple.

Well, that was my weekend.  I really hope yours was way more exciting than mine.  I will leave you with some adorableness from my childrens....

Check out all her mama hair!  That's what we call the waves and curls and frizz...because it's just like mine!
It hasn't always been like mine.  Just over the last few months has it gotten more out of control.  She loves the poofy part.

The Evidence

And the furry ones...

This is seriously how they sleep together.  I do not pose them.  Let's face it, what cat would even let you pose them?  They just end up snuggling...usually because Remy wants to.  It really is adorable.

And speaking of Remy...check out his new video.  Seriously, he may have been around humans too long.  He eats with his paws now.

And...that's all folks...

Mother's Day Weekend

This past weekend was filled with joy and laughter and lots of memory making activities.  Yeah...that's a load of crap.  It was a weekend...just like every other weekend.

I woke up to fix breakfast.  Fought with P about her "homeless girl" attire.  Fixed lunch and dinner.  Tried to avoid tantrums and meltdowns (unsuccessfully).  Etc.  Etc.

Friday was grocery shopping day.  Saturday was "fun" shopping day.  And that pretty much was the extent of those exciting days.

(edit...I forgot...Saturday, I spent the evening rearranging my living room.  That was actually fun.  Awesomeness!)

Sunday was Mother's Day.  I'm a single mom.  So, there was no sleeping in or breakfast in bed.  There were no surprise gifts (I got mine a few days ago because P couldn't wait).  And of course, this was the ONE morning P doesn't want pancakes.  I was really craving some, but since she didn't want them, I didn't make them for me.

After getting her fed, I got to fixing the cake for Mother's Day lunch.  I got pinspired and just threw some stuff together.  It turned into an angel food cake with cream cheese/cool whip/strawberry chunk icing.  It was topped with strawberry chunks and a melted nutella drizzle.  AH MAZ ING!!!!  And pretty too!

We got dolled up and went to our family's cookout.
The food was delicious.  And we had a blast.

We usually get a game of something going.  I say we when what I mean is they.  Today, they played volleyball.
And while they played volleyball, P and her uncle went around the block.

We came home and wasted time.  We were planning on having movie night but we were both pretty tired.  We went to bed early.  Early for us.

I hope all of you mamas out there had a wonderful Mother's Day.

One Lucky Mama

Have a wonderful week everyone!!

"Post"poned

Weight-y Wednesday will be postponed until Friday this week.  Everything has been jacked up this week with finals and my Aunt visiting (if ya know what I mean...wink wink nudge nudge).  Anyway, more on all that later.

It's finals week and I have been busy.

Here's a quick recap of my past several days (because I know that I lead a mesmerizing life and you are just sitting there wondering "What HAS she been doing?").

Friday, P and I went to the House of Parents and visited.  Really we just went to love up on the puppies.  They have a Chihuahua mix named Rusty and two new 5 month old Boxer pups.  Rusty is not happy about this whole thing.

Don't mind the blur.  Nana wasn't paying attention when she took the picture.

Rusty is in my lap, along with Queen P.  Sadie is in red and Sammy is in black.  They are some awesome puppies.  That says a lot because I don't like dogs.

P went to her dads this weekend so I was solo all weekend.  I didn't do much of anything.  Seriously.  I think I read a lot.  I slept a lot.  I did end up re-covering P's table and chairs in her room.  Yeah, that's pretty much it.  Oh, I did make some quasi-Mexican food in honor of Cinco de Mayo.  And it was good.  mmm taco salad.

Spring has sprung here in the land of Bill.  See??  My Oxalis plant is blooming!  I am so proud of this plant.  My great friend Marlene brought me this plant after I had P.  I have kept this plant alive for 5 years!  Keeping a kid alive is cake compared to a plant!  Every year this plant dies and is barren and I think that I should just toss it in the garbage.  Truth be told, I'm just lazy.  I never make it to the garbage with it and then comes spring and I'm astounded that it made it through again.

My Hosta is still alive too!  Yay me!

And as for Monday, P and I went to meet my parents at the vet.  They took the babies in for their shots and they go to our vet, so we just met them there.  P decided she needed to get all gussied up.  I kid you not.  She definitely has some sense of style.  I don't know if its the senses from a blind person or what, but it's style.  She's beautiful though.  I love my little monkey.

Yes, those are fake nails (thanks to Nana).  And yes, she put them on herself.  Check out my lil homeless kid!  Now add some brown zig-zag mary jane Skechers and a pair of white aviators and you will have the WHOLE picture.

I spent Tuesday finishing the blogs' new layout and taking finals.  I like this look much better.  It's more me.  I think I have the blog how I want it for now.  It's difficult and rewarding to do this kind of stuff without a professional.  I have mad respect for IT people and web designers.  The final went great.  My only problem with Tuesday was that my child had a meltdown.  And by meltdown, I mean explosion...Chernobyl style.  Anyone have any tips on how to cool the reactor?  HAH yeah, I kept that meltdown/Chernobyl thing going...

Well, that's all for today.  Now to go write like my life depends on it.  Boo!

Happy Hump Day y'all!

The Story of P: Part 1

So when I asked my 5 year old what I should write about today on the blog, her response was, “Me, of course!”

Of course.

And I have been known to indulge my child a little too much.  Why stop now!?!

Plus I have been feeling nostalgic lately.  P's impending entry into kindergarten has left me wondering where in the world my tiny little monkey has gone.  She is beyond ready to go, but mama is not as sure.

P (whose proper name is Piper) was born in March 2008.  My due date was March 23rd.  She was frank breech and was not looking to move, so I had to schedule a c-section for March 17th.  Yes, that would be St. Patrick’s Day.  I took issue.  Not with the c-section.  I wanted that.  It was the date.  St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays and I didn’t know how I felt about P being born then.  But, I got used to the idea and it became even funnier later.  My doctor would be out for my delivery and the doctor who was scheduled to do my c-section was all of 4’11 and reminded me of a leprechaun.  HAH!!  We had a good laugh.  Well, P was the one laughing.

I didn’t stop working until 3 days before my delivery.  I worked in retail…selling shoes.  I was on my feet ALL day long.  Seriously.  It cracks me up when I hear women complain about their nice cushy jobs and having to stop working like 3 weeks early.  But to each their own.  So the 3 or 4 days before delivery were spent finalizing my home.  I got all of P’s things in order.  On Saturday, I had lunch with my sister and then went home.  I had plans to shower and wash my hair and all that good stuff on Sunday.  I went to bed that night looking forward to my relaxing day.  My LAST day before mommyhood.  P was active.  I was annoyed.  I slept anyway.

The next morning, I woke up at 7:30 and I was pissed.  I had to pee.  It was so early.  I figured I would pee and go right back to sleep.  I figured wrong.  I sat there and peed.  Then, all of a sudden, I hear pop pop.  No joke.  I heard that shit!  And then there was a gush.  Now I was still half asleep so I just thought I was still peeing.  But it kept coming.  And then I realized…it was coming out of the wrong hole.  Fo real!

And of all days for NO ONE to answer their phones.  I called my sister and both of her kids.  No answer.  Finally, she called me back and swiftly arrived at my house.  I called the hospital and told them I was coming.  A day early.  Yes, P has a sick sense of humor.  I tried to call P’s dad but he wasn’t answering.  Really!?!

My bag for the hospital wasn’t 100% ready.  And I wasn’t about to leave my house without washing my hair.  So, with my sister having a heart attack and with towels wedged in my girl parts, I washed my hair in the kitchen sink.  By the time I was done washing my hair, the contractions had started.

I called my parents (who actually DID answer).  And they were going to meet us at the hospital.  My sister drove…freaking out the whole way.  She was also secretly praying that P’s dad never responded so she could be the one in the delivery room.  Well, that wasn’t actually so secret.  By the time we got to the hospital, the contractions were pretty strong.  I still walked the WHOLE way up to L&D.  I’m a beast y’all.

Once there, they got me into a gown…got me hooked up to machines…called the doctor (which was not the leprechaun)...and they made sure P was still breech.  Oh, and the drugs.  I got drugs.  Once the anesthesiologist was available, I got my epidural.  That shit was scary and painful.  I heard crunching…not cool.  It took a lil bit for it to take affect and I was freaking out.  I kept telling her, ”I can still feel my feet!”  But it turned out ok.

After her bath!

I laughed through most of the c-section (it felt really weird and cool).  And cried.  Tears of happiness.  (P’s dad did call back and showed up in time.)  The anesthesiologist was really great and took the camera from P’s dad.  She took photos for us.  And she held my hand and wiped my tears.  She was awesome.

She stole my heart!

P came out butt first…screaming…and she peed on the doctor.  Not a bit has changed.  She still has attitude.  She cried and cried.  They cleaned and wrapped her up.  Her dad held her and then they gave her to me.  She stopped crying.  She stole my heart.  I knew then that I loved her more than life itself.  And I knew I was hungry as shit.  It was March 16th, 2008.

After making our way back to recovery, my mom snuck her way into the room.  I was glad.  I wanted her to be the first to see P.  I just thought (and still do) that it was so awesome that she snuck back.  She wasn’t supposed to be back there but she 007’d her way into recovery.  Crazy ass woman!  She beamed.  She was in love, too.

I still remember the rest of the day.  But I will forego the tedious details.   I remember having a turkey sandwich after.  And then my awesome friend Leah bringing me Cracker Barrel.  I still love her for that!  We had a lot of visitors!  I just wanted to sleep.  I remember almost having an anxiety attack that first night.  I had sent P to the nursery.  I got up to go to the bathroom.  I knew I was in the hospital.  I knew I had been cut open.  But I was so afraid that having P was a dream.  I was afraid that I was there for some other reason.  I calmed down and went back to sleep.  Until they brought P in for a feeding.  And then, I knew it was real.

2 weeks old

She was an amazing little girl.  And still is.  I should have known by her larger than life entrance into my world that she would be a force throughout.  She continues to amaze me daily…with her wit, her intelligence and her beauty...

See?  Amazing!

I’ll continue her story another time.

Thanks for reading.

Weekend Recap

Well, well, well...it's Monday, again.

Since it's Monday, that means it's time for a weekend recap.  You know you love my super exciting life.  Yes, folks, that is sarcasm.

Friday

Friday started off with my very first ever appointment at the eye doctor.  I've gone my whole 30+ years without ever having one.  I've noticed that my eyes are getting weaker, so I thought I would just get it checked out.  I have to admit that it was pretty cool.  P thought it was awesome, too.  She is fascinated with anything medical.  And really has to be in the middle of it.

It turns out my eyes are perfectly healthy.  My vision is almost perfect.  I could use a small prescription, but it would be so minimal that it wouldn't be worth it right now.

Friday night was mama/daughter date night.  P and I went out to eat and spend some time together.

P had pancakes and inhaled them within 2 minutes.  Pancakes and mac n cheese.  Yes.  Great combo, eh?  I had chicken fried steak.  And it was good.

And not only did we get a good meal, but I found something I absolutely could not leave without.  Food and shopping!?!?  My night was complete.  Check out this little find!

Isn't she beautiful!?!?  She found her home in my bedroom.

After we got home, P and I watched some Monster High movies and cuddled.   Then...bedtime.

Saturday

We relaxed all day Saturday.  I haven't been feeling well, so we just watched tv and played Go Fish.  Seriously exciting right!?!?  I know, I roll hard y'all.  I did start to declutter my office.

 Sunday

Sunday was more relaxation.  P decided that she was going to watch Spongebob all day.  I really hate Spongebob.  But, I choose not to argue about it.  Plus, it gave me some quiet time to reorganize my closet and get the laundry ready.  I got some chicken taco soup made in the crock pot and I finished straightening up my office.

P and Graye like to play this weird fetch/chase game.  She throws a mouse, Graye chases it.  P runs after her and they bang into each other.  They are both weird.

I ended the evening by taking a test in one of my classes and then falling asleep.

As you can see...we lead a very complicated life.  Thankfully these days are pretty laid back.  P will be starting kindergarten in the fall.  I will be working more and taking more classes than normal.  It's going to be interesting.

Where has the time gone?

Well, that's all for Monday.
Happy reading y'all!
